Out and About

St Oswald #3

Today Mr P walked 28km from Weldon Bridge to Alnmouth.
I explored :-
i) the former pit village of Longframlington
ii) the delightful village of Felton whose main street used to be the Great North Road  from Edinburgh to London. It has a  very large number of ex-pubs and a Grade 1 listed church
iii) Warkworth - home to  a ruined medieval castle, hermitage and bridge
and finally
iv) Alnmouth , a port since the 1300s and featured in the BBC series Villages by the Sea ( Series 2 Episode 3), well worth a watch. The blip shows the hill in the distance on which was built the village church. The hill became cut off from the village in 1806 when a storm changed the course of the River Aln. You can see the boats now moored on the river between the village and Church Hill with a cross on top.
