‘Wide and Tall’

St Stephen's Church dominates the view from George Street, at the top of Edinburgh’s New Town, and takes up the bottom of Saint Vincent Street.

Like many other buildings in the New Town, it was built in the late 1820s and designed by William Henry Playfair.

Apart from its width, its tower has the longest clock pendulum in Europe, at 162 feet (49 meters).
