Quod oculus meus videt

Looking Straight Up

I tried when we were last here in 2018 to capture the night sky. We are definitely in a dark sky area and the stars are something to behold. Unfortunately, the moon has just passed 50% waxing and is high in the sky during the evening, but I woke early, after it had set and took a few photos of the Milky Way from the terrace of the lodge (as we’re not allowed to venture outside without a guide).

This is looking almost directly above and shows the myriad of stars that are in the sky. For someone living in a heavily light polluted area of the West Midlands, it is incredible to see so many stars in the night sky.

I went out for a game drive with Hannah in the morning, followed by a late ride before sundowners in the evening. We bumped into the owner, Ant Baber, along with his fiancée, Sarah, who are about to open a third lodge in the near future. It’s possible we may be able to help out and take part in a game census, as they need to transfer some animals from our reserve into the new reserve, as the game there has become depleted. I really hope it is possible.
