Epic

Vast, astounding, fabulous, wonderful, incredible….. we used them all, and more , to describe the Iceland landscape. None of them did it justice but we settled on Epic.

Day 2 we took a tour to the Borgarfjörður area. It was a fantastic introduction to the countryside. First stop was Grábrókargígar - a volcanic crater that were able to walk up and around the top of. The crater was fascinating, and the views from the top were definitely worth the walk. Photo is looking towards the east and the white peak is called Baula (if memory serves me right)

We then visited waterfalls, bubbling boiling steamy water pools, Snorri Sturluson’s village (and pool) and took a walk into the bowels of the earth in the Vidgelmir Lava Cave. Full of ice stalactites, coloured rock and strange lava formations. Also a very hungry troll but we thankfully didn’t get too close to him.
