Suchitoto, El Salvador

The colonial town of Suchitoto is about 30 miles from the capital, San Salvador.

The town is so charming with its colourful buildings and cobbled streets. And it’s set in beautiful lush jungle surroundings. Its Pre-Columbian origins are with the Nahua ethic group. In the Nahuatl language Suchitoto means the place of flowers and birds.

It was only just over 30 thirty years ago that the twelve year Civil War ended in El Salvador. This area was a base and stronghold of the FMNL guerrillas. The town was practically abandoned but the colonial buildings remained largely intact. It’s now one of the most popular places to visit in El Salvador.
