Stuff and Nonsense

Mediterranean Gull #48

I had company today on my outing - my husband and one of his friends who's a birder. We headed to Cemlyn Bay to see the tern colony that make their home there in the summer. Only the Sandwich Terns were back - the Common and Arctic Terns are due 'any day now' apparently. Also on the islands in the lagoon were loads of Black-Headed Gulls and four smart summer plumaged Mediterranean Gulls. They were stunning looking birds.
In extras, I have put a shot of some of the sandwich terns as they all took to the air for some reason - we suspect it was a raptor of some sort, but none of us could spot it.
We then headed over to South Stack to look for sea birds, but apart from a few fulmars, the odd razorbill and a host of gulls, there were no guillemots, puffins or gannets to be seen, also no choughs - Dane was disappointed. We shouldn't have bigged it up so much, but weren't to know that they hadn't arrived yet either!! However we did see Iolo Williams, of Springwatch fame, climbing down the cliff path followed by a group of 23 birders. Imagine being at the back of that line - you'd not see a thing.....

Thanks for all the love for yesterday's Song Thrush fledgling being fed. It was a lucky moment to have been able to capture.

Sorry for just sprinkling stars and hearts. I don't have much time to comment whilst I'm away.
