Robin at large

Rough Seas

Despite the sunshine it was quite cool due to the strong wind. We decided to take a ferry over to Menaggio. There are some quite large waves on the lake. The wind was coming from the north, the ferry rolled quite a bit when we crossed from the east side of the lake to the Menaggio on the west side.

We found a sheltered corner where we could have a cappuccino before a walk around the town. This was followed by lunch at a restaurant just off the main square. We were able to sit outside though it did become quite cool when the Sun moved around and our table was in shadow.

We decided to return to Lenno on the ferry rather than taking a bus. This turned out to have been a poor decision. Possibly due to the High wind normal ferries had been replaced by larger normally used as car ferries, they're not actually carrying cars.

Although these ships are larger they do not have as much seating as the smaller passenger ferries. The ship was a few minutes late when we boarded. However we arrived at Varenna just behind one of the largest ships which travel the full length of the lake. We had to wait ages just offshore this ship picked up and dropped off passengers. We continued to follow this ship all the way back to Lenno. As a result our ship was continually delayed and we were an hour late getting back to Lenno. Due to the waves I was getting spray from the lake despite being on the upper deck. Fortunately we were able to move inside for much of the journey.

I'm getting back to Lenno we made a brief visit to the supermarket for supplies for dinner back at the apartment in the evening.
