All in White

We had a great day at Wimbledon!

Jenny & I had packed our rucksacks full of homemade salads, tzatziki made fresh with a mix we'd picked up in a stall in a Kos Town market, cookies, eccles cakes & home-mixed Pimms laden with punnets of fruit & veg. What a stash we had!

We definitely had the advantage with our seats on Court No.2. We saw some wonderful doubles action. First up we had the quarter-final face off of Bopana/ Roger-Vasselin v Lindstedt/ Nestor. Featured above is the white & tan of the latter Swede & Canadian, walking back to the baseline for some much needed tactical re-thinking & close encounters of the yellow, fuzzy ball kind. Despite their scheming, tantrums & even a brief 3-hour rain delay, they were beaten by the amazing serving & teamwork of Indian-French combo.

A brief note on the above composition - i'd taken quite a few shots from the day, as is my way, & i was really pleased with some of the action that i captured, but i thought i'd go for something a little different but still very familiar. I wanted to capture an iconic image of the Championship & it's thanks to Jenny for her clever idea that i hope i managed it.

Following that we saw the second round match of Soares/ Raymond v Polasek/ Husarova. Suffice to say, the no. 1 seeds Soares & Raymond didn't hang about in their 42 minutes on court. We finished off our day with the Snr Gentleman's Invitational Doubles match of Bahrami/ Leconte v Bates/ Jarryd & what a laugh it was! Bahrami & Leconte were particularly hilarious, not wasting a moment to ham it with the crowd or showboat.

We also saw Tracey Austin, Mark Petchey, Richard Krajicek, the Bryan Brothers & David Ferrer, amongst others, training, playing or being mobbed in post-match crowds. Jenny has a particular talent for getting signatures & managed to improve on her one from last year by getting nine this year! Bob (of Mike & Bob Bryan) was quite taken with Jen when she thrust her ticket & pen at him - he gave her a quick, cheeky look & smile. Amazing skills, a true master.

A swell day at SW19.

End of play.
