We left Flagstaff passing patches of snow beside the road in woods and watched a display of a Wild West shootout and the long train departing from Williams to the Grand Canyon village.  Then continued through more desert following the line of the famous cross continent Historic Route 66 for part of the way.  Since 1978 it has largely been replaced by the Interstate 40 road meaning that former communities which had gas stations, stores, restaurants and places to stay are now almost abandoned.  One such, just off the freeway, is Seligman which seems to me, fairly typical of the sort of place that could have been seen in the first half of the 20th century, but without the busy traffic.   There are many quirky displays and cars with the film Cars having been inspired by the little town.  It looked a place which would delight anyone who wanted to build their own car out of classic parts.  We bought a delicious ice cream and had to sit in the cool shade on another day of a vast temperature difference between getting up and noon
