A Day Worth Recording

Unplanned

'E' returned from her RTPI conference in Huntingdon today bearing a large cardboard box - containing this year's Planning Achievement award; awarded to her for the project E's been leading on.

Planning departments are not always everyone's cup of tea but it is they who argue on your behalf for things like schools, shops, 'affordable' housing and better design overall - none of which makes money for the developer.

The award is for "An outstanding example of ... successful collaboration between [developers], the community and planning authorities" for one of the major swathes of development to the south of Cambridge - the one that, yes, is in our back yard.

There were times over the past months when things seemed not to be going quite so 'outstandingly successfully'.

It took a fair bit of cleaning before being photographed. I wonder if trophies the world over are generally maintained by photographers?

The lighting was a bit of a challenge. It comprises a halogen lamp to the front, and an LED lamp backlighting the engraved glass panel which would otherwise be invisible. I had to wait for the sun to go down as the studio garage has no curtains and the light streaming in just flooded it.

The sun also meant the room was well lit. Consequently, earlier shots have perfectly clear reflections of either (a) my T-shirt, or (b) the wobbly pile of stools the halogen lamp is resting on.

In other news, as 'M' is returning Sunday it seemed time to move our stuff out of his room.

...into 'S's room.
