Sally Mair - Loving life

Fethiye

Today is our last full day here, we are picked up at 5pm tomorrow and arrive back home some time after 1am Wednesday dependent on getting through security and the availability of taxis.
We went into Fethiye this morning and the village is based there. The tree I've been told is a Jacaranda and is one of several around the old town area .
This area is built onto the side of a hill, there are many of these steep alleys with stairs and turns up to the next level. Many houses are not accessible by vehicle. The container garden caught my eye, there's a cucumber or courgette already on the plant.
The flag flies properly on the castle above and overlooking the old town. The most recent buildings date from the 15th century, Crusader times and the Knights of St John. There is evidence too of much older buildings which have been built on. The castle is now a complete ruin and not safe to visit, like much of the town and the area, it was severely damaged in an earth quake in 1957. Here's a little more about it if you would like.

The final picture is the old town fruit and veg market, all local produce including strawberries and cherries.
