A time for everything

Moving day

Friday May 3
After breakfast, Roger and I went to pick up the UHaul trailer, and met Laura at the apartment. She could stay long enough to help move her sofa into the trailer, which was the most cumbersome item, then she had a work appointment for a couple of hours. At least it was a fairly easy move, in that L had a ground floor apartment, with an outside door, as well as a door off an inside hallway, which was great in the winter time, so you weren’t letting freezing cold outside air into the apartment when you opened the door. However, for moving stuff in and out, obviously the outer door was more useful. We kept going, and L joined us again when she was done. We were on the road again back to Fond du Lac about 3.30 pm. At Liam’s place, there were more stairs involved, a few steps up to a screened in porch at the front, or a few more up to a deck outside the kitchen at the back, plus some of the stuff was going into the basement storage. The most difficult thing was getting the Queen size mattress up the stairs, which have a turn in them, and a fairly high banister -:I doubt they had Queen size beds when the house was built (!) - however, with some pushing and shoving, we succeeded. After all our exertions, we went out for dinner at a typical Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry. This is a Wisconsin tradition, all over the state, and all through the year. The one they took us to was a very casual place out in the country - I think Liam has some sort of connection with it. There was a choice of Perch, Walleye, Haddock or Blue Gill, a choice of potato style, and it came with soup and salad bar first if you wanted it. We didn’t go hungry!
