a lifetime burning

By Sheol

Out, standing

I almost went to try to take some misty bluebell woods this morning,  but the lure of birds on the Somerset levels won out, so I headed there instead.  I was pleased that I did, even if photographically the results were a bit more miss than hit. I heard a cuckoo and had almost got within photographic distance when it took flight, so I don't even have a poor record shot.   I also saw a bittern, but as it was flying away from me I didn't bother trying to photograph it - I don't need more shots of a bittern's rear end in flight thank you very much.

Instead here's a heron sitting on a post in a field of rape.
