Garmouth Viaduct

TT was up early again to attack his pile of marking, and he had the fire on again.  After breakfast he and I went out for a walk. It was another lovely day and I think a bit less windy than yesterday.   The tide was high again and was crashing over the walkway, though probably not as much as yesterday morning.

We left BB to his studying and headed out for the day, but with no real destination in mind.  We drove through MacDuff and Banff and continued along the coastal route, stopping in Portsoy, where we had a wander around the harbour area.  It was a real suntrap and just lovely.  We came upon a “shrine” to someone.  A bit of googling revealed it to be to Michael Gray from Peaky Blinders (which we have not watched).  Part of Peaky Blinders was filmed in Portsoy – and we understand that that is where this character met their end.

We continued on our way and TT had a plan that we would park in Kingston upon Spey and walk to Spey Bay – a lovely walk we have done before.  However, the road to Kingston was flooded.  We tried a different road – and it was also flooded.  We drove back to Garmouth and a chap told us the road was open, so we braved it through the remaining water and parked up – but then realised that the start of our walking route was well under water.  We went back to Garmouth, parked up and did the walk from there.  It isn’t all that far, but was a really lovely walk.  We  went to the café at Spey Bay for some lunch and after a mix up, ended up with soup and sandwiches.  After wandering out along the shingle shore, we re-traced our steps and then headed home.

TT offered to cook again, so I took the opportunity to get BB out of the house and we walked to Crovie.  There were spots of rain, so we didn’t hang about.

Later there was Diamonds are Forever while I read my book.

This is the old railway  bridge across the River Spey at Garmouth.  The extras are at Portsoy Harbour, with the whisky merchent sign being left from Peaky Blinders I believe.
