Dawn's Journal

Splish, Splash, Croak!

My art class today was all about frogs.

The first exercise was folding a picture in half, pinning it on paper and drawing in the other half to create a symmetrical image: my poor old brain really struggled with this!

Exercise 2 was to create an inkblot  by lightly drawing the basic shape of the frog and creatively dropping blots of ink based watercolour on one half which was copied onto the other half by folding the paper over. This was much easier and the different images produced by the group would certainly give followers of the Rorschach test plenty of food for thought; the test is a projective psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analysed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both.

The final image was to use the techniques in the main artwork. The paper folding was ditched by all, but the exercises certainly helped (me at least) in drawing and painting this proud specimen of a frog in a free style.
