The Stirling Tapestries

"The Mystic Hunt of the Unicorn"

Sometimes it pays to listen as well as look when searching for a Blip. We were visiting the Tapestry Studio in Stirling Castle which has clear signage both inside and out indicating "No Photography". A visitor in front of me asked if he could take a shot without flash, and was given the thumbs up. So, seeing my Blipportunity, I did the same, and was given permission.

This is the last of seven tapestries worked by hand, using traditional techniques dating back to the 1400s, for the Queen's Inner Hall in the Palace. James V was known to have owned two sets featuring unicorns, and this set tells the story of the hunt and killing of the mythological creature.

After a great day out here, we travelled north for dinner at the family castle in Crieff!
