Get Knotted

We had a wander around (part of) Calf Hey Reservoir near Haslingden this morning with Bramble and Granddaughter Freya. Next to some of the ruins are some short posts that are well rotted. So much so that a wire fence has been erected in front of them.

I first noticed this some years ago, and have since seen it elsewhere, but this seems to be the best example I've seen. The inside of the post has rotted leaving the knots, originally branches.

Presumably the outer ring survived longer than the inner wood because of the preservatives used. But knot as long as the knots.
