Grumpy Old Man

A relaxing day

A mixed day today, weatherwise. Sunshine from the word go, and we walked down to Colby Station and caught the steam train to Castletown, the former IOM capital. We walked into town and sat by the harbour for a while before popping into a cafe for coffee and cake.

We then went down to the seafront, had a walk along the harbour wall beside which is the old grammar school, formerly a chapel, and built around 1200, apparently the oldest intact building on the island! Then up to Castle Rushen in the town where we climbed to the top to look at the wonderful views. Then back to the station to catch the train to the end of the line at Port Erin - the station is a passing place for trains so we saw two steam engines in the station together - my Blip today.

We discovered that we were sharing a compartment with Noel Edmonds and friends, though he didn't recognise me!! His wife (I suppose) gave me a nice smile though! By the time we reached the town the sun had gone in and we had a brief walk down to the harbour before doing a bit of dinner shopping and back to the station to catch the last train back to Colby. His Noelship was on the same train - my extra today.

Back to the house and drinks in the garden before dinner.
