The Registan at dusk

Uzbekistan day 9 - now in Samarkand
The journey from the mountains took about 4 hours; again atrocious rural roads, but fascinating scenery.
Our room is quite palatial - a real contrast to last night’s “ youth hostel “ type accommodation. We have a free afternoon so wandered west in the university area to the European town / Russian quarter to buy tickets for the theatre later. We came back via Gur-i Amir but didn’t go in as we go there tomorrow on the tour.
The Theatre of Historical Costume show at the El Merosi theatre was both a cultural performance of the history of Uzbekistan through costume and very entertaining, performed by local ballet school students
We then went down to Registan Square to see the three madrasahs illuminated: simply lovely
