The Iris

My research for one of my books I am working on, led me to the iris. I am always drawn to them when they bloom here. The word iris translates from the Greek language as “rainbow,” and the goddess Iris was the goddess of the rainbow. She was also the messenger for Zeus and Hera, and was also known for her wisdom, as she was the communicator for the gods. I like this backstory of our humble purple flowers in the backyard, the beautiful iris.
