This is the day

Hello Summer

A tongue-in-cheek "Lakeland" shot as we left our beloved Lake District this morning to return home. We took a taxi to Windermere Station, allowing ourselves plenty of time in case of mishap (after my cancelled bus event earlier in the week). Thus we had quite a bit of time to kill before our train came, so the division of duties went as follows.

Smithers repaired to Booth’s supermarket (which, incidentally used to be the original station building) in order to purchase some sandwiches for the journey, and I walked across to the Lakeland flagship store, their largest and best, just the other side of the track.  I wanted to buy a few pairs of their amazing moisturising rubber gloves, which slip on and off so easily, in order to save me having to do an online shop when we got home. I was, however, thwarted, because the only size that was available was small, and I wanted medium, but both medium and large sizes were out of stock! So much for their flagship store …

Fortunately Smithers was more successful with his purchases. We caught our train to Oxenholme (Kendal) and then our next train to Euston. After a short walk to Euston Square station, we travelled the five stops to Liverpool Street on the tube, and then took a further train to Chingford, where we were picked up by our middle son and driven home with great care. We were so grateful. It had been a long day and both of us were very aware of our sore backs.

I have to report that The Traveller, meanwhile, had left Langdale in Smithers’ car at an unfeasibly early hour, and then sent us a photo of it, neatly parked in our garage, just before 9.00 am, while we were still sitting in our lodge! By the time we arrived home he had taken everything out of the boot, put it all in the appropriate places for us to unpack, and had taken delivery of an online Waitrose order which he had also put away.

It’s great to be home. The garden is full of roses and foxgloves, our box hedge round the rose garden has been given a really good cut by the lovely Steve while we were away and everything is looking very much like summer.
