Tourist in my own neighborhood

My husband's brother visited us so we showed him around the island.

The upper picture is taken in Kruunuvuorenranta where we visited silo 468. During the day we missed all the LED lights. That's my husband in green shirt. I have the camera.

"Silo 468" is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 program, and it was designed by Lighting Design Collective of Madrid, Spain. The idea behind the concept is to reflect Kruunuvuorenranta's nearly 90-year history as an industrial area, as well as its future as a residential district. Viewed from afar, Silo468 shines like a large lantern, while inside the silo awaits an impressive world of red light. Sunlight fills the space with dappled shadows creating a spectacular daytime space. At night 1,280 white LED ?s flicker and sway on the surface of the silo software mimicking swarms of birds in flight - a reference to silo ?s seaside location. The enduring fascination of the complex movement of light and its location by the sea make Silo468 a captivating experience for the visitors and the residents of Helsinki."

On the picture below we had coffee and ice cream in summer cafe "Helsingin Hella" in Tullisaari. It's open only in July. Perhaps in August too. They are still negotiating. My brother-in-law has the black shirt. I'm behind the camera.

We walked along the seaside and visited the old villas that are still left in Tullisaari. Weather is really nice and hot and the whole area was in good use. People we tanning and swimming and picnicking.

If you are ever in Helsinki I recommend you visit Tullisaari. It has a nice park and beautiful sea side to rest your eyes. It's not a place where you normally find tourists, but it's very near downtown and a lovely place. You can actually spot some of the main attractions across the sea such as Helsinki Cathedral.
