Why did I come in here?

By Bootneck

So, there I was

......enjoying a cup of tea and trying to capture a few images of a seagull when numb nuts flogged overhead in his Lynx.

This box suspended under 4 rotor blades made it's first appearance way back in the 70s. It has had so much gumpf added to it that it can barely if ever do the job it was created to do, carry four fully kitted men or fire half a dozen missiles at a nasty enemy.

The spade like bits at the end of the rotor blades enable extra lift to be provided and they help counteract the speed of rotation which has to be hight to keep the thing in the air. The radar forward and beneath the nose defies logic as the driver can barely see forward and the weight penalty reduces the operational time on task hugely especially in high temperatures. Typical British procurement policy, think of a number, go for it then think again and keep adding bits - "go on, add this as well, might as well have this other bit, it may make it useless but we'll justify our nice office in Whitehall."

Yet another bundle of aluminium and rivets from Wastelands.

I tell you what this one can't do, it can't barrel roll the way the original version could.
