Clifftop toehold

It amazes me how trees - often much bigger than these - stubbornly thrive on rock faces, roots boring into the least hint of soil in crevices. This picture was taken from the rock shelf between Mosquito Bay and Garden Bay. The white is quartz running between strata of other rock thrust up from ancient ocean floor.
