EPA Building, Washington, DC

A very busy day in downtown DC today. First stop was to do some research at the Smithsonian Archives. Then I was off to the National Museum of American History Library for more research on Robert J. Van de Graaff and High Voltage Engineering Corporation. Lots of good stuff at both sites but I was done by 12:30 so Linda and I had the afternoon to do the tourist thing. We visited the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of Natural History. We also walked along the National Mall all the way to the Lincoln Memorial (Linda's 1000th blip!) and back in oppressive heat. Along the way we saw the Washington Monument (enclosed in scaffolding while undergoing repairs from the August 2011 earthquake. We also stopped at the WWII and Vietnam Memorials. Every decent place to eat closes up before dinner so we took the Metro back to our hotel and ate at a nearby pub.

This is the Romon Doric style front of the EPA Building. It was built in the early 1930s and is a fabulous work of architecture. Washington is full of fabulous edifices like this one. More on this building's architecture here.
