The Great Gathering

To the National Railway Museum in York for the Great Gathering, which is a celebration of the steam engine Mallard breaking the speed record for a steam loco in 1938.
Mallard is an A4 class Pacific loco, so the other five surviving A4 Pacifics have been gathered together in one place, for the first and possibly last time, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Mallard's record. The other lococs are namely: Bittern, Dwight D Eisenhower, Dominion of Canada, Union of South Africa and Sir Nigel Gresley. Eisenhower and Dominion of Canada have been brought over the Atlantic to help celebrate, so it was worth going to have a look at. A much cooler day to visit would have been ideal but the Gathering finishes next week after only two weeks. It was good to see the museum packed but it was very, very hot.
