Quintessentially British: The Local Pub

This is The Brickmakers Arms, one of 5 local pubs in the village (yes, it is a large village) all of which seem to be doing good business. The inn dates from the 17th Century and, as the name suggests, it has a connection with the brick industry. Early in the 20th century the fields behind the Brickmakers Arms were known as 'The Bricklefields'. Clay has certainly been dug there and there was probably a kiln for baking bricks. The pub is known locally as 'The Brickie'. As well as serving good cask ales, it serves food and hosts things like pub quizzes and live music evenings.
