From Flour to Flowers

Today I had a last spending spree on patio plants after power hosing the patio. It's so bright now in the sunshine I need dark glasses!

I've found a great independent plant shop hidden away in Crow Road Anniesland. It opened in 1996 in what was previously an old bakery. However, you can't really miss it because the pavement outside has stacks of containers piled high with new blooms. A narrow passage between two terraces of houses is festooned with plants and leads to the shop. Then through the shop and out the back is a wonderful courtyard packed with hanging baskets and pots of plants. I've never seen so much in such a compact area.

I love the quirkiness of this centre and the way the plants are cared for, so different from the big brand garden centres. In the picture - apart from the plants - there are some great shapes and textures - the triangular corrugated orange roof with white strip, the grey pantiles on the left, the grey brick wall, the dark green wooden fence and the wrought iron of the hanging basket stand. It's a veritable cornucopia of texture and colour. And of course, given the wall-to-wall sunshine we're having at the moment, everything's in cracking shape.
