Ardnave Point, Islay

From our base in port Charlotte we drove to Loch Gruinart and walked along the farm tracks to Ardnave point. We didn't see another person, only cows and sheep, from the point we could hear seals calling to each other. There were huge sand dunes along the way and the point was a lovely place to stop in the sunshine and eat lunch.

We got a bit lost on the way back and eventually ended up retracing our steps. As we arrive back at our car, the family we met in the hostel were just arriving, and a bit further up the road we passed someone else from the hostel, this made us feel like locals bumping into people we knew.

We went on to Bridge End and visited Islay Brewary (after all that whisky you need something lighter!) and then on to Portnahaven and Port Wemyss where there is a small B&B on the end of a row of houses which serves tea and cake from their garden. It was a bit late in the day and there were limited cake options available, I would recommend an early visit if you go! We sat out looking at the lighthouse opposite and watching for seals in the bay.
