Sushi chef's syndrome?

My younger son Kim and I decided that we indeed could not take the heat, and opted to get out of the kitchen and over to Kuru Kuru Sushi for dinner. As those of you residing in Bellingham may know, Kuru Kuru offers a conveyor belt-style delivery system where plates of fresh made sushi and sashimi are whirring past your eyes at a seductively slow pace, teasing your taste buds and begging to be selected. The plates are very reasonably priced, ranging from $1.50 up to $3.50 per plate.

As we gorged on fresh yellow fin and tekka maki, I could see our two sushi chefs working tirelessly to keep production rolling. But what about the stuporous expressions on their faces? Could they be succumbing to the hypnotic spin of the conveyor belt? Had they inhaled too much wasabi? In any case, they were clearly skilled and talented enough that they could roll sushi with their eyes . . . . er, opened.
