The damaged Old Convent chapel at Beeches Green

I went to take some pictures here this morning on behalf of Stroud Preservation Trust, as we were going to be discussing it at our trustees meeting tonight. We had been tipped off that there was severe damage to the stonework, which isn't normally visible because it is hidden away in a walled garden not normally open to the public view. If you look at it in large format, you will see the damage more clearly.

I was very shocked at how bad it really is, as were the other trustees when we all saw its condition. We have decided to contact the owner to express our concerns and see if we can facilitate any help for the building. Harry knew a bit of the history of the building, which has been unused for decades. He remembered when they removed the rather rare organ from the interior to a nearby church. The Chapel is attached to the Old Convent centre, where the old nun's cells are now used as work spaces for small businesses. I will try to find out more. I need to visit my osteopath who has a practice room here so I will ask him for more info.

We launched our new Stroud Preservation Trust website on sunday, so if you are interested you can see what it has been doing in Stroud for the last thirty years.
