Uppark

At Uppark this afternoon, trying to catch a breeze. The 17th century mansion is built on the high ground above the village of South Harting, and we had a very pleasant tea in the shade.

As you pass the stables on the way to the house, you come across these ornate vents let into the ground. They lead possibly 20ft down to echo-y tunnels from house to stable. Not sure if they were for the convenience of the family, or so that the servants weren't seen crossing in front of the house. Fun for the kids anyhow.
