Ganavan Sands

The weather was wet this morning but brightened up early afternoon and we dashed out to make the most of it. Took tea and cake, walked to Ganavan Sands where we sat on the memorial seat for young Craig McCulloch who died aged just 18 in 2006. The little garden is beautifully tended and we always pay a visit when we walk on to the end of the Ganavan Road. Impressed that the developer who built the new houses at Ganavan Sands actually diverted the garden wall round the memorial.

This is the headland looking north from Ganavan. The headland behind us, between Ganavan Sands and Wee Ganavan, was where the Royal Navy established the anti-submarine Indicator Loop Station during WW2. An important part of our defence system, the remains still visible today. Click Here for more information if interested.
