Getting Fitted

The first day of my big adventure with my Dad was to go to Goodwood House for the 20th Anniversary Festival of Speed. I went with my Dad a couple of years ago for a single day, but the event is so big it needed more than one visit, and more than one day, so this year we decided to go for the weekend.

We got held up on the motorway for about an hour, so we only arrived at lunchtime. We spent the afternoon walking around the paddocks looking at all of the racing cars that were on display and would be running later in the weekend. It is a really relaxed atmosphere and you could get really close to the cars and the many star drivers from many different eras.

Here is a photo of John Surtees sitting in a Honda F1 car from the 60s which he raced. He was talking with Historic Honda technicians about the car and they were discussing pedal positions, so there was a chance he would be driving the car later in the weekend. John Surtees is unique in that he started as a motorcycle racer and became World Champion, before transferring to car racing and he became the only man to win a World Championship on 2 wheels and then on 4 wheels.
