Lightening Passes

Lightning fast and enjoying every minute there were four small skippers all vying for the top spot on the lavender today as well as having that extra love interest to keep them on their toes.

The meadow brown butterfly usually takes time out to get rid of pesky small competitors for the nectar but today this little tiny gorgeous orange skipper wasn't having any of it and was getting it's own back. Although - it could have been accidental, as an admirer was in hot pursuit! Two words there: hot - oh yes very hot....and pursuit ..you're telling me!!! To say he was 'very keen' would be understating it a fraction! They were whizzing past the camera lens like greased lightening. Emptied a fair few hundred out of the trash can today! Pictures that is not butterflies:))

I did wonder if this was an immature male because when it opened it's wings it had very strong black scent marks across the forewing. Anyone with thoughts.....

More of today's shots.
