A Sense of History

Everytime I drive past this cottage I want to stop and get some photos.

On the way back from Portree to Waternish today, the sky was moody and the cottage looked just so blippable.

My friend was on her way back from work and recognised our car parked off road so appeared all concerned that something had happened - the kids explained that this behaviour is really quite normal for mum!

When we got back our friend John explained that this cottage was used in the filming of the lifestory of an extraodinary Highland woman called Màiri Mhòr (Big Mary!!)

Màiri Mhòr nan Oran (Big Mary of the Songs) was a nurse from Skeabost, Skye. She was a prolific song writer from the age of 50, writing songs of exile, praise and hope as well as songs of protest about the way the Gaels were treated by others.

Sounds a feisty old lady and even if she didn't actually ever live here it gives the cottage a sense of some history.

Last full day on Skye today!
