No Signalman

The local railway line between York and Harrogate has several level crossings. There are two halfway between Knaresborough and Harrogate about a mile apart, so you can imagine the traffic queues.

This signal box is now defunct and slowing rotting away. It wasn't so long ago that the level crossing became automated. There are tales of the signalman sometimes holding up the train for people rather than the other way round.
