Nest Builder

I think, at least according to our illustrated bird book, this is a Cacique, either the Yellow-Rumped or Yellow-Winged variety. He has been constructing a nest in one of our palm trees for the past week and today I caught him in the act of weaving new material into the existing structure. It is incredible how conscientiously he works, spending hours working the strands of plant matter in and around the strands already in place. The nest hangs from a palm frond, attached in the same intricate manner, and blows freely in the wind (natural air conditioning). I hope to get a photo of the finished project, but for now I like the action of him working away.
