Skelf

skelf - noun. A Scottish word for a small splinter of wood embedded under the skin

The wee man managed to collect one of those today. After much chasing and pinning down of the rather uncooperative offspring, his mum proceeded to use the pictured implement to remove the offending skelf.

It was all over in a matter of seconds even though at times it sounded like a serious assualt was taking place. The neighbours must think we're horrible parents.
