A little piece of history

Yesterday was full on gardening.

Today was housework and history.

Our little cottage had never had windows downstairs. Originally, the room was used as a carpenter's workshop. During the day when it was light, the doors were kept open. And when it was dusk, the carpenter stopped working. Simple.

Now though, the room is a lounge and we wanted to bring in natural light with the option of having the doors closed.

With a gap in between guests staying in the cottage, we took the first set of doors to the carpenter in nearby Los Sauces a couple of weeks ago to have windows fitted. This week, we took the second set, got them back on Friday, re-painted the outside of them on Friday night, worked on them again Saturday and re-fitted them this morning ready for guests arriving today.

And of course, cleaned the cottage top to bottom in readiness.

Better not to dwell on the housework, rather to think how the guests and the cottage will enjoy having windows downstairs for the first time in its 140 years history.
