Above You

Down to Ayr today to my coastal mum and dad's house for an overdue swim in the sea. After a roasting in the garden and the staple ice-cream from Ronaldo's, après the mammy nose-diving the pavement, we headed down to the sea.

It was pretty chilly but once under, not too bad. I don't think I've swum in the sea at Ayr since I was 13.

Back home and whilst lazing in the garden I was looking up at my childhood bedroom and realised what my blip could be.

This is the mural in the attic, above my room, which was painted by the teenage son of the people who owned the house before us. It's about 2m high. It turns out that the painter is the historian and broadcaster Niall Ferguson.
