Had a lovely time at Abbotsford today, Walter Scott's country house. It is amazing. No wonder he took such pains to get back there before he died.

I particularly loved his study. You had a wall of books with a big desk, a hidey hole to run off to if unwanted visitors turned up. Then a wee staircase up to a gallery with more books and a door through to your bedroom. I could definitely see myself working insvuch a room! And it was separate from the library with even more books!

Rather hard to do it justice though so this wee guy from Melrose Abbey won.

It was a bit less fun to come home and see Arthur's Seat on fire.
