Rocket engine beauty

Today we visited the Titan Missile Museum outside of Tucson. This silo holds a Titan Missile that was previously equipped with a devastatingly powerful nuclear weapon. This silo was staffed 24/7 for 20 years during the Cold War. Thankfully, the staff never received that dreadful message (in code) to launch the missile. The adults in the group found the tour quite interesting. Bob, however, freely admits to tuning out about 70% of the guide's presentation.

While it was very interesting, it was sobering as well. The thought of over 50 of these silos across 3 states each holding bombs hundreds of times more powerful than the Hiroshima bombs turns my stomach. But thankfully, all those silos are gone now, except for this one. And this one has now been a museum for longer than it was an operating missile silo.

I chose this picture because I was pleased to find some beauty in such a serious place. I processed it in an app called Fotor.
