Castle Campbell

Situated above Dollar Glen. A 15th Century castle, with a tower and hall, the lowland stronghold of the Campbells, earls of Argyll. You can climb the tower, right up to the roof, for dramatic views south down the Glen. Hot and humid, and blue sky, we enjoyed a walk around the gardens and up the Glen to the top waterfalls. The path was very slippery and overgrown in places. The property and area are looked after by both Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland. Quite a drive up the narrow road to the parking area, and then a walk up to the Castle. You can choose to paddle the ford, jump across the stepping stones or cross the bridge.

Earlier in the day, we visited the University of Stirling, walked beside Airthrey Loch, and then lunched with the lovely Dr Nomes.

I think we made the right decision to travel east, as the weather report back home was of a deluge.
