Anatomy of a wasps' nest

A morning inspection indicated that the wasps were none the worse and were staying put after last night's failed attempt to persuade them to head elsewhere. Time to call in the professionals! They arrived within half an hour and dealt with the nest in a couple of minutes - one short puff of poison was all it took. We took several shots, including some close-ups, which unfortunately were all out of focus (it was too bright to see on the small Ixus screen!) - this blip shows the whole nest.

Then hedge cutting resumed until our family visitors arrived in time for dinner. We had barely seen them at the family get-together down south at the weekend and had called yesterday to find out how and when they were heading back. A detour to ThisOldHouse would work out just fine, so they didn't need much persuasion! It was good to meet up for a proper chat.
