Lake Express

In 2004 the Lake Express, an aluminum hulled catamaran, was introduced on Lake Michigan. It's a high speed auto/passenger ferry--the first one to operate in the continental U.S.--& cut the crossing time from Wisconsin to Michigan, via the lake, from 6 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. It can hold 250 passengers, 46 vehicles, 12 motorcycles & 20 bicycles. It's 192 feet long, 57 feet wide, reaches a speed of 40 miles per hour, & is powered by 4 diesel engines which drive 4 independant Rolls-Royce Kamewa water jets. It's equipped with a self-activating computerized ride control system which provides a much smoother ride & allows for fewer cancellations when the lake conditions are bad. Inside, the cabin features first-class airling-style seating, a large selection of table seating, wi fi , outdoor decks, a cafe, & onboard movies. My husband would really like to take it accross, but I've seen the movie "Perfect Storm", so I really don't want to! Maybe I could just meet him on the other side! Ha!
