A Sunday afternoon in the park

My Summer Pops Orchestra performed this afternoon on an outdoor stage in Ferndale, WA. As luck would have it, the weather was a bit cool and very blustery, which meant lots of clothes pins, clips, and weights to keep sheet music intact.

Despite our efforts, there were several sheet music malfunctions when a strong gust of wind got the better of the paper and clips. Nevertheless, we persevered, and under the awesome (and patient) direction of Nick Strobel, who is also principal cellist for our local Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, we made it through the five pieces that we've spent the last three weeks preparing.

There was an interesting assortment of vendors at the "Pioneer Park Old Settlers Picnic" where we performed, including some groups selling Confederate flags and such. It was rather disconcerting to say the least. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves, and we enjoyed sharing our music with the crowd on this sunny, blustery Sunday afternoon.

Encore! Encore!
