Another frozen mud day so I was out for a walk after breakfast, it was beautifully sunny. The mud was frozen alright, but also very slippery so the going wasn't very fast.

Halfway round there's a stile in the corner of a field which is always a bit troublesome because the ground dips in front of it. Last Saturday we managed to get to the stile by keeping to the edge of the field, but today that was impossible. The ice went right into the hedges and, because the water's deep, it wouldn't have held my weight and I'd have been wading! Luckily there was a nearby gate, so I climbed over and took a photo of the sheep. I think they're all pregnant, they definitely weren't at all bothered by me, they barely moved.

I've withdrawn from my Ramblers walk on Saturday as it'll still be icy and it's not worth the risk a) of driving into the Peak District  b) of 2,700 feet of ascent and  c) of walking on wet, icy limestone. No thanks!

However tomorrow's volunteering for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, my first one, looks more enjoyable than it did, as the task has been changed to better suit the weather conditions. I'm looking forward to it.

Edit: forgot to mention that I saw a crow mobbing a gull, then a thrush eating berries.  It had a swooping flight pattern, maybe a Mistle Thrush.
