Boat on the river.

This little blue boat was bobbing about on the Dingwall canal as it enters the Cromarty Firth at Ferry Point. The canal was designed by Thomas Telford to make Dingwall into a working port with a large harbour. However the advice to avoid the River Peffery flowing into it was ignored and the canal was forever silting up so was no longer in use after 1840.

Saw several birds along the canal and in the firth including artic terns and black headed gulls .A few fish were jumping.

In the distance you can see the town of Dingwall with a population of around 5,000.There are several small shops and a large Tesco. The Puffin Pool, hydrotherapy pool, where I go every Friday is located near to Ferry point.

King Macbeth was born here. In the middle ages Dingwall was said to have the biggest castle outside of Stirling.

It is also the home to Ross County Football club which I can see through the pool window when I'm doing my exercises.

It's a much nicer day today, no rain just wind and sunny. Good for all those going to the Belladrum 10th birthday Festival, including Mike, unfortunately my legs are not up to standing for long periods of time and there is not much seating around so I'm staying at home.

Have a great weekend whatever you are doing.
