Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 340

Last night's cloudy view here gave way to this mix of sun and cloud this morning with continuing warmth enticing early coffee quaffers to the beachside cafe tables.

Every cloud has a silver lining so the saying goes but in the quiet and circumspect quarter of Joppa there was a shocking armed robbery this week that seemed to me to be all cloud with no sense of silver lining. Fortunately no one was injured but the robbery, at knife point, at our local newsagent is quite a shock. The full details as reported on the Edinburgh Evening News website are pasted below. It just shows that sadly no where is exempt from such worrying crimes.

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a newsagent’s in Joppa yesterday.

The incident happened at around 2.45pm when a man armed with a knife entered the newsagent’s on Joppa Road and threatened staff before making off with a three figure sum of cash and goods.

The suspect is described as male, white, aged between 40-50, and was wearing a black beanie style hat with white writing or logo on the front, a black 3/4 length jacket and black trousers.

Detective Constable Simon Berwick said: “This was a frightening experiencing for the shop worker involved who was left understandably shaken as a result of this incident.

“I would ask anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the robbery to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.
